Art provides an outlet for expression for all our students. Every child from pre-k to 5th grade receives art lessons at least once a week. Students showing advanced talents or interest are provided opportunities to create art for special exhibits on their free time. Each year every student deeply explores collage making, drawing, painting, sculpture and printmaking.

In our art room at P.S 140 we are developing the language of art. The students learn how to talk about art, how to describe the processes they use, and how art from the past affects style today. Our students have become familiar with the masters, such as Romare Bearden, Jacob Lawrence, Vincent Van Gogh, Claude Monet, Henri Matisse, Georgia O’Keefe, Pablo Picasso and Da Vinci. We also share what careers are deeply rooted in art making, how different world cultures approach art making and how our community uses art.
