Welcome to PS140Q

MR. DAVID NORMENT, PRINCIPAL

Hello PS 140 Families,

On behalf of the entire PS 140 staff I would like to welcome you back to another fantastic year. This upcoming year we have new and exciting opportunities for your family to experience. While our successes last year are too many to list, the staff and I are excited to welcome our new Pre-K and Kindergarten students. Our motto is “Greatness Occurs One Step At A Time.” We know that anything that is considered great takes time to shape, mold, and form. It takes learning from your mistakes and knowing that no one succeeds by themselves; rather it is the collective influences that often determine how we grow and succeed. This mantra is embedded in everything we do. Our staff works hard everyday knowing that we are all part of a collective experience that enables your children, our children, to be prepared for the future.

Since every year is an opportunity for growth it is important that you are aware of some things we will be building on from last year. We have adjusted our start and dismissal times for the 2016-17 academic year. Please review our new schedule below:

Reading

Knowing and learning how to read is the cornerstone of education and will be the foundation of our focus this year. We will have multiple opportunities for you to learn more about our reading initiative. For our Pre-K to Grade 1 students, they will focus on learning how to read, for our Grade 2 through Grade 5 students they will focus on reading to learn. Every subject, even MATH requires students to read in order to gain knowledge and accuracy. Every great reader, especially at the elementary level has become great through modeling someone in their family or in school who reads. We need everyone to work together to ensure that our reading initiative is successful. That means YOU!!! Parents, Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, Sisters, Brothers, Friends must all make reading a priority!!!

Parents we need you!

Yes we need you!!! As a father of three elementary school students in the NYC DOE I know that your time is often limited. It’s important that we work together to ensure that all of our students succeed. That means going to the PTA meetings, the Parent Learning Walks, Coffee with the Principal, and the countless Parent Workshops that we offer throughout the school year.

Please look out for more information through our School Calendar, Monthly Newsletters, Pupil Path Messages, School Messenger, and upcoming letters home. School starts September 8, 2016 @ 8:20am, let’s make it our best year yet!!!

Sincerely,

David Norment
